Medical genetics

Context: Many mental disabilities remain unexplained because of the limitations of current methods of chromosomal analysis. A new technology, called "CHG-Microarray" helps to resolve this problem
Aim: To identify the gene(s) responsible, and to understand the diseases' mechanisms, so as to allow the screening and treatment of these disabilities.
 Cost: CHF 120'000.-

Oncology

Context: Third cause of mortality per cancer in young adults, first cause of mortality in children, gliomas are brain tumours which spoil the support tissues around the neurones. This type of tumour remains incurable. One of the most promising processes is immunotherapy, i e the natural body self-defence stimulation to counteract the cancer. Aim: To define the most adequate moment for stimulating the cancer patient’s immune system
 Cost: CHF 300'000.-

Parkinson
