Mission - What we do

The Foundation finances projects that cannot be funded by the Hospital or the University (hereafter, "the Institutions’). These projects cover three areas:

Clinical research
This applied research is hospital-based and closely involves patient care.  It aims to improve prevention, diagnosis and therapy.

Research in basic sciences
The aim of this research is to improve understanding of basic mechanisms underlying disease. A prime example of this is the Human Genome Project in which many scientists from the Institutions are involved.

Patient well being
This pertains to all aspects of outpatient or inpatient care, and especially projects aiming to improve patients well being during their stay at the Hospital.

Humanitarian projects
This term refers to projects involving collaborative healthcare projects outside Switzerland, and support for development projects abroad.
